TP4056 TP4056: 1A Linear Lithium-Ion Battery Charger for Portable Electronics

The TP4056 is a complete single-cell lithium-ion battery charger IC that integrates a constant-current/constant-voltage (CC/CV) charging algorithm, an internal power MOSFET, thermal regulation, and intelligent charge termination. Designed for USB-powered and portable applications, the TP4056 delivers up to 1A charging current, making it an excellent solution for consumer electronics, IoT devices, handheld terminals, power banks, and rechargeable modules. Its ESOP-8 package requires minimal external components—typically just two capacitors and a programming resistor—significantly reducing BOM cost and PCB footprint.

The device features a fixed 4.2V regulation voltage, programmable charging current, automatic recharge, dual-status indication, battery temperature monitoring, and built-in safety protections. With its internal P-channel MOSFET architecture and reverse-blocking protection, the TP4056 eliminates the need for external MOSFETs or diodes. It also incorporates thermal feedback to automatically adjust charge current and prevent overheating during high-power operation or elevated ambient temperatures.

In addition, the TP4056 precisely manages preconditioning for deeply discharged batteries by initiating a trickle charge below 2.9V, seamlessly transitioning into constant-current mode when voltage rises above the threshold. Charge termination occurs when the charge current drops to 1/10 of the programmed value, ensuring optimal battery lifespan and safety. If the battery voltage later falls by approximately 200mV, the device automatically initiates a recharge cycle.

These combined functions make the TP4056 a reliable, efficient, and cost-effective solution for integrating rechargeable lithium-ion batteries into modern portable electronics.
